For our last show of the year, we attended LPG Week, which took place from 18 to 22 November in Cape Town, South Africa. It was a great opportunity to talk to the many visitors who came to our stand and to attend conferences on the future of LPG. It was a fascinating and rewarding week!

A steady stream of visitors to our stand

Sensile Technologies has been a member of the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA) for 10 years and takes part in every edition of LPG Week. This year, the event was yet again a great success, as demonstrated by the enthusiasm of our representatives on site, who were interviewed by the WLGA (videos available at the end of this article).

The show attracted many visitors from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South America and Asia. Our stand showcased the results of our 25 years’ experience in developing solutions for monitoring LPG tanks remotely. Visitors were able to discover our telemetry units for tank monitoring, our inverters for gas cylinder management, and our OilLink™ cloud portal, which enables data analysis and monitoring.

A bright future for LPG in Africa

Under the theme ‘Energy for All’, LPG Week 2024 sought to highlight the advantages of LPG as a clean, versatile fuel. One of the talks we attended was about ‘clean cooking’, an initiative supported by several African governments to promote the use of LPG in cooking, as a replacement for wood and coal.

A change such as this offers significant benefits for health and social progress. Traditional fuels emit harmful particles and collecting wood forces women and children to carry heavy loads, sometimes over great distances. This can take them up to one and a half hours a day, preventing women from undertaking any other activities and, in some cases, causing children to miss school.

The LPG market in Africa, while currently small by international standards, has major growth potential. Key factors include the wide variety of applications for LPG (electricity, heating, transport, industry, etc.) and demographic trends on the continent, with the population expected to double by 2050.

These are exciting prospects, as are the challenges that go with them. Among the issues discussed at LPG Week were teaching households how to use LPG and producing renewable fuels such as rDME (renewable dimethyl ether).

See you in Rio in 2025!

Many thanks to the World Liquid Gas Association for this successful show. Our stand is already booked for next year: we’ll be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 22 to 25 September 2025. In the meantime, if you were not able to meet us in Cape Town, contact us to find out more or to arrange a demonstration.
