Several times a year, we take you behind the scenes at Sensile Technologies to meet one of our team members. Today, we invite you to meet Software & Firmware Engineer Roudy Dagher, Head of Software Engineering.
An insatiable appetite for science and computing
Roudy Dagher joined Sensile Technologies in January 2023 to join the R&D team dedicated to the software side of things. A year later, he became manager of this close-knit team with their complementary skills. In his opinion, Sensile Technologies was an ideal choice, as the job enables him to work on very specific issues in the field of industrial IoT (IIoT) and to be part of a close-knit company, where a friendly, collaborative atmosphere reigns.
Before joining Sensile Technologies, Roudy acquired a wealth of experience in the aerospace sector, and later in research, innovation and technology transfer. This background gave him a unique perspective on how scientific advances can be translated into concrete industrial applications, as well as the opportunity to actively contribute to these transformations. At Sensile Technologies, he particularly values the fact that the role of engineers is not limited to solving day-to-day problems. They are given the time and resources to step back, closely monitor new technological developments and take part in conferences, thereby strengthening their expertise and capacity for innovation.
Of French and Lebanese origin, married to a Spanish woman, he lived in France before moving to Switzerland. For several years, he also lived in Chile with his wife and children, thus reflecting the diversity that makes Sensile Technologies so rich. Another element connecting him with his colleagues: he’s one of those engineers who practises their profession out of passion.
Indeed, his interest in science and computing has not diminished since he obtained his doctorate 10 years ago. When he’s at home, he enjoys the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with family and friends or cooking while listening to music. Nevertheless, he retains his inquisitive spirit, devoting time to reading the latest scientific publications, keeping abreast of technological advancements and experimenting with new ideas.
Challenges, new approaches and shared values in software development
In the industrial IoT, the challenges in software development are numerous: modularity, scalability, resilience, interoperability, traceability and agility. Roudy Dagher and his team of engineers are no strangers to these complex challenges, particularly in the field of telemetry for the oil, gas and chemical industries.
Every Monday, Roudy brings his team together to coordinate efforts, discuss challenges and find solutions together. At the heart of this dynamic, a roadmap is put in place to maintain an overview of medium- and long-term development objectives, be it for cloud protocols, firmware, infrastructure or tools. This methodical organisation, coupled with the adoption of CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous deployment) cycles, aims to reduce ‘time to market’ and respond with agility to market developments.
The team strives for excellence in quality, attention to detail and best practice, reinforcing Sensile Technologies’ position in the IIoT. ‘Working with such a passionate and committed team of developers is a real source of motivation’, Roudy confides, seeing this symbiosis as an asset in meeting the challenges ahead.
