From 1 August 2025, the European RED directive will impose new cybersecurity requirements on connected equipment. For Sensile Technologies, while our solutions already incorporate solid protection, this change particularly represents an opportunity to further strengthen existing security.

A stronger regulatory framework for better protection

The European RED (Radio Equipment Directive), applicable from August 2025, introduces additional obligations in terms of cybersecurity. It directly concerns telemetry equipment used by the oil, gas and chemical industries. To meet these requirements, these technologies will have to incorporate mechanisms such as encryption of communications, strong authentication, and secure management of updates.

At Sensile Technologies, these practices are already well in place, with our IIoT solutions incorporating robust layers of protection to secure their operation and our customers’ data.

Safety by design beyond regulatory requirements

One of the best ways of preventing a cyber-attack is to limit exposure. This is the case with our equipment: because it is battery-powered, we have optimised its Internet connection time. For example, the GSM modem remains switched off more than 99.9% of the time. This feature, combined with the fact that each unit communicates at a different time, makes any attack attempt considerably more difficult.

We have also had a strict security policy in place for a long time, as well as an automatic intrusion detection system. The telemetry units are also spread over a vast territory, making any targeted attack complex and economically unviable.

Compliance without constraints for our customers

Cybersecurity regulations help us move forward. With the entry into force of these requirements approaching, we commissioned a specialist firm to carry out a detailed risk analysis of our solutions. This process has enabled us to identify a few minor adjustments that will be incorporated into a new version of the firmware by the end of this summer.

These improvements do not justify replacing devices already in service. The firmware will be deployed on the new telemetry units and will benefit all our customers, both in Europe and elsewhere.

Safety is everyone’s business

We do everything we can to protect your data, but cybersecurity also means using good customer practices. That’s why we introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) several years ago. We strongly recommend that all our users activate it to enhance the security of their access.

2FA will soon become the norm, imposed by the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), a European regulation designed to strengthen the security of digital products, due to come into force in 2027.

Setting course for ISO 27001

Our next step is to obtain ISO 27001 certification. This will not change our data protection practices, but it will enable us to formally demonstrate to new customers what our long-standing partners already know: at Sensile Technologies, we take cybersecurity very seriously.
