Patient Management
Monitoring of glycemic status and intensive insulin therapy are considered cornerstones of diabetes care in all people with type 1 and some people with type 2 diabetes. Multiple daily injection (MDI) therapy and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) with an external pump are the current methods of intensive insulin therapy. Systems that avoid multiple finger pricking and multiple daily injections will significantly improve the quality of life in people with diabetes.
Sensile Medical`s Insulin Delivery Systems
Insulin pumps are used to deliver insulin continuously, thereby overcoming multiple daily insulin injections. With insulin pump therapy most clinical trials have demonstrated improved outcomes, lower rates of hypoglycemia, less daily glucose variability and better quality of life. But many people with diabetes are deterred by the size and weight of pumps available today.
Sensile Medical is aware of the need for improved insulin pumps and is developing a device that will be:
- Very small in size
- Light weight
- Reliable and accurate
- Significantly lower in cost than currently available insulin delivery systems
